It all starts with the first step

Every journey starts with the first step. A chance to invest in your own harmony of mind.

No matter whether you live with anxiety, depression or other mental health issues, help is at hand.

Anxiety and depression

Whether you carry a ball of anxiety with you or feel the cloud of depression take the step to make a change to the way you feel day to day.

Bereavement

I am the area contact for WAY (Widowed And Young) which is a bereavement charity offering peer to peer support. Bereavement is a journey, the initial loss sends out shock waves throughout your life. I can provide empathy and support at any point in your journey.

OCD

Everyone has intrusive thoughts but in some the thoughts stick around and become obsessions. Talking therapy can help this condition that is so often misunderstood in the media.

Trauma

When we are exposed to trauma it can effect our mental health. Whether the exposure was short or long term, how you react is personal to you. Talking therapy can aid recovery from trauma and ease the symptoms of PTSD.

LGBTQIA+

I am an ally to the LGBTQIA community who attends Pride and is familiar with the community. I am a safe person for anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+.

More about
me

Hi my name is Sarah, I am a person centred therapeutic counsellor. Person centred means that you are at the centre of everything we do in the counselling room. I have a safe, confidential and comfortable space where you can open up about mental health issues.

About Me:

I have a background in early years education, which I did while raising my family. In 2007, I suffered a bereavement, and this led to me seeking counselling in 2009. My experience was very beneficial, helping me with grief and anxiety. This positive experience led me to where I am now.

In 2020, like many others, I was made redundant. During lockdown, I reflected on my past and where I want to be in the future with regards to my career. The natural choice was counselling. I have seen first hand, the positive influence that it can have on people's lives and I wanted to do something meaningful with my time.

So, I started on my journey to becoming a counsellor. In the past few years, I have studied levels 2 to 4 in Therapeutic Counselling and am now a fully qualified counsellor. I have volunteered at Serendipity (as a counsellor at the practise) and Askham Bryan College (as a counsellor for students) during my studies.

My daughter is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and I'm a proud ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and attend pride every year. My experiences with my loved ones and my own lived experience means I embrace differences and diversity with empathy.
